The Sort of Personal Data We Collect and Why We Collect It

Comments

When you leave a comment on the website, we’ll collect the data that you fill in the comments form along with your IP address and browser user agent string. Don’t get overwhelmed with such heavy words. It’s all just to help us detect spam, and nothing more.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture will be displayed with your comment(s). Scroll through all those pictures of you on your phone to look for the best one!

Cookies

If & when you decide to leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email address, and website. It’s not like we don’t want your information, but it will mean you don’t have to type in your details every time you want to comment. We promise, these cookies will expire after one year.

When you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

We will also save your login information and your screen display choices for ease of use the next time you visit our website. Login cookies last for a couple of days, and screen options for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login details will remain for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed. It’s truly your choice.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser (unfortunately, not the chocolate chip kind). This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.

This website may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content. Sorry, but that’s just the way the cookie crumbles.

Analytics

Who we share your data with.

How long we retain your data.

When you leave a comment, it and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is only so that we recognize you next time and automatically approve any follow-up comments instead of holding them up in a moderation queue.

Where We Send Your Data

Visitor comments will be checked through an automated spam detection service.
